You beat the defense by taking what they give you in this scenario. They are playing cover 4 (defending the deep ball) so you take the underneath route and take 5 yards. They are winning 13-10 right now by using that philosophy along with solid special teams and defense.
For fucks sake the team is finally playing complimentary football and you still find a way to bitch because the deep ball isn’t there.

They are hanging several guys way back. They absolutely don’t want to get beat over the top. They are trying to Cockeye us to death by waiting for us to make a mistake. Crazy thing is, we have made the mistakes and they haven’t capitalized on it.
