Leave the wife stranded in KC, grab the first flight to Bali, disappear from society, & roam the beach, hitting on young hotties I have no shot with. On second thought…kind of hoping we lose.

I wouldn't freak out if Nebraska doesn't win. Not sure why anyone thinks Nebraska should “just win” this one. Vegas has it at -6.5, which isn’t “easy win” territory — it’s “one bad quarter or a special teams gaffe and suddenly you’re sweating” territory.

I think NU will win by 2–3 scores if they play clean. But it’s the first game of the year, on an unfamiliar field, against a respectable opponent. And yes, Cincinnati is a respectable opponent to face for your first game of the year. If this was Houston Christian in week 1, then yes, I would freak out.

Because if Nebraska isn't going to be a below average to trash team for the rest of the millennium, they'll have to start crapping on the Cincinnati's of the world at some point.

Maybe they lose to Cincinnati and improve significantly the rest of the year, but I'd venture a guess that if they can't beat Cincinnati, they're going to have a heck of a time with the remaining schedule minus Akron and Houston Baptist Christian Incarnate Word or whatever it is

Fair point — if Nebraska’s ever going to climb out of mediocrity, they’ve got to handle the Cincinnati’s of the world. Totally agree with that.

Where I push back is the idea that it should be automatic. This isn’t Houston Christian rolling into Lincoln — Cincy’s not elite, but they’re not a pushover either. First game of the year, new pieces, unfamiliar field… there are plenty of ways it gets messy even if Nebraska’s the better team.

I’m with you: if we’re serious about turning the corner, this is the kind of game we need to take care of. But “need to win” and “just win” aren’t the same thing — at least not for Nebraska yet.
