Baseball Official 2025 Nebraska Cardiac Beaver Slayers Baseball Thread - (33-29) - BACK TO BACK BIG TEN CHAMPIONS

The only thing I've heard this year was when they scored 19 runs against the Dodgers, Dave Roberts made a comment after the game along the lines of "not to reopen old wounds, but it really seemed like they knew what pitches were coming."

As a Dodgers fan, I obviously hate the fucking Astros. Their fans will tell you that it's because we lost to them in the World Series, but they're wrong. We lost to the Cubs in the NLDS the year before that, and the Red Sox in the World Series the year after. I don't hate either of those teams (even though the Red Sox have similar cheating accusations from that year). It's because the Astros players and fans were a bunch of unlikeable fuckheads.
Correcting myself because I think it was actually Orel Herscheiser who said that on the broadcast, not Dave Roberts after the game.

I just don’t understand bypassing a state title. Throw some loser and still give your team a shot if you’re that worried about it.
If it severely lessens your chances of reaching your real goals I could understand. That said, I agree with you. Have to imagine the other team would do the same, they’re in the same situation.

They’ve officially made youth baseball way too fucking complicated. What a bunch of BS.

Have to say I’m surprised to see that two Lincoln schools were going to play for the title though. Obviously East is elite at everything they do, but I didn’t know SW was that good.
Anyone know anything about the Papio coach Lyman? He’s getting killed on the internet. Along with this there’s something about a discrepancy in pitch counts between teams.

East winning Legion State twice without Peltz, Worthley and Senstock shows you how bottom of the barrel Nebraska Legion Baseball is. It is what it is, A cheap convenient place to play for kids who just want to play baseball in the summer and not spend money to travel the country. There is nothing wrong with it, but lets call it what it is.

When did this change and why did it need to change? I came up playing against Joba Chamberlain, Johnny Dorn, Ryan Wherle, Jake Dugger, Andy Gerch, and a ton of other guys who all played high level d1 ball and they all played Legion.

Are we doing kids and families any favors making baseball more expensive and disruptive to a family when there is plenty of solid competition within a 150 mile radius? Or is it just the next evolution of baseball ego like what has happened with select ball since the 90s? There used to be 4 select teams in Lincoln and now there are a million. Similarly, now it’s no longer enough to be first team all state for your high school team - you have to play on a travel team to be able to call yourself elite.

Huskers sent Senstock and Worthley to a College Summer League, Peltz got hurt. High School Seniors who play Legion aren't preparing themselves to be the most ready when stepping on Campus, Go to a College League and Face College arms. Playing Legion and facing HS arms ( alot of JV that are getting reps to move up to Varsity next year) doesnt get you ready

Youth sports are basically the asshole of modern society

On one hand I understand wanting to face elite competition, on the other hand it didn’t hold back guys like Alex Gordon or Johnny Dorn one damn bit to play Legion ball. I mean, Nebraska has a good amount of baseball talent. This all feels like chasing diminishing returns, which is something that pro athletes can and should do, but maybe not the healthiest way to grow up.

Johnny & Joba are 20+ years removed from high school ball. Times have changed though, with more opportunities. Way too many families are bought in to the "you must play travel for your son to get a D1 look." That's wrong, especially regionally. Jake Meyers played legion, as did the Waldron twins. Nate Fisher too. Hagge as well. Max Anderson too. Aaron Palensky too. Cade Povich too. Griffin Everitt as well. Perry, Gomes x2, Burnham, Bunz, Feekin, Evans & the list goes on & on. Same for those that chose travel ball, it's a long list.

IMO, no high school graduated senior signed with a D1 should be allowed to play legion ball. All D1 schools have connections across the country to get them on to a college summer team. And the expenses are very limited for the most part.
