Snyder supposedly had a melt down one road trip when the caterer served the team those little hard pats butter on a piece of wax paper. He specifically asked for whipped butter or margarine. Don’t think I ever heard why, but it was a thing with him.

They were definitely better with whipped butter than without.
I think it had more to do with JUCO transfers and partial qualifiers, but I won’t completely discount whipped butter or the shady side of the plane.
