If this happens, we are really in trouble.Wouldn’t be too surprised if Snow is calling the defense by late November..
I posted this on 'X', but was curious this boards thoughts. I would be in the "that's rarely good" camp... however, offensive coordinator should be an upgrade in my opinion. Special teams wasn't any good so can we be worse? I do worry about DC.
As in Snow can’t call a defense? Or we’re in trouble because we switched play calling duties? If this happens, we are really in trouble.
Because we switched duties. To me that means Butler f’d up and Snow had to relieve him of his duties. I’d be more comfortable if Snow was the main guy from the start. As in Snow can’t call a defense? Or we’re in trouble because we switched play calling duties?
I’m firmly on team we should’ve just hired Snow.Because we switched duties. To me that means Butler f’d up and Snow had to relieve him of his duties. I’d be more comfortable if Snow was the main guy from the start.

K...The amount of manufactured panic driving the anti-Butler narrative is a massive waste of energy. There is literally ZERO evidence to support the the idea of Butler being a bad or even shitty Defensive Coordinator. From all I can tell, some "loud" posters on various Husker sites and then a few of the very Gay Husker Podcast groups, and the Husker Twitter bros "didn't like the hire."
Those opinions have crafted a negative perception about Butler's personality, coaching, acumen, and communication style.
The dude spent 10 years in the NFL and never once got fired. And that was only with two teams. That's almost impossible to accomplish as an NFL assistant.
I personally will always lean back into the jimmies and joes mantra of college football. I have seen Nebraska play bad defense before. And many of those bad defenses were so devoid of talent, that coaching was almost irrelevant. In fact, we have a lot of people "very concerned" about the d-line after the losses of Ty and Nash. I get it. I really do. Those dudes will be very difficult to replace.
But then I also realize that Nebraska won't be relying on players like Devin Drew and Stephon Wynn to fill that voice. In fact, players like Drew and Wynn probably dont even crack the 2-deep on the 2025 roster. I believe Matt Rhule made sure in the off season that the defense is going to be very competent once again.

This is a good point and does make me feel better about the D. We do have a lot of DC experience on staff outside of our actual DC.When we talk defense we need to remember it isnt just Butler, Phil Snow is helping and I trust Snow
I wouldn’t even say I’m overly worried about Butler, but there’s also ZERO evidence he’ll be a good coordinator. I’d just feel a lot safer about it if we had Rhules long time DC instead of the guy that’s never been a coordinator before. You can list his credentials all you want, we know they’re pretty impressive. It doesn’t change the fact that in a do or die year for Rhule, we’re counting on a first time coordinator. The amount of manufactured panic driving the anti-Butler narrative is a massive waste of energy. I would imagine prep and adjustments during the game is way more important than the actual plays called. Maybe someone smarter could say.Because we switched duties.
