Personality of TPB

I think the general consensus was optimistic when we first started. I feel like most of us have gotten more pessimistic as we finished out the Frost years. Getting more optimistic again but still well below early Frost years. That could change with a decent season like 8-4. 7-5 probably isn't enough to change the mood.
Get ready for 7-5.

It may take time to know the nuances/historical context of some comments (pie & salsa, sparkle gloves, etc.) but it’s the most sane Husker takes on a message board I’ve seen after starting on 24/7, going to Rivals, crashing out on Dean via a subtle lawn care post to avoid detection, then coming here.

There are many who have similar stories or felt they were being severely misled because the writers need to keep their access & relationships. Here, we can be critical of reporting and the state of the program without fear of the ban hammer.

However, there are two surefire ways to get banned here:
1. Steal information from the board, post on Twitter under a fake alias then soft launch your media career with that information and act like a total dumbass the whole time.
2. Be a man from India who randomly posts religious texts and tells us that we are bound for damnation.

Other than that, you’re good to go!

I read somewhere this morning that we’re 58 days from the season opener with Cincinnati and I can’t help but get excited.

It’s been like this for me since the early ’70’s, and even with all the crap years stacked on top of each other over the last decade, I still look forward to the next football season and this season is no different.

Having joined the board after last football season, this fall will be interesting to me in more ways than one. I’ve been on here for a handful of months now, but I really don’t get a feel for the board from a football perspective. I see that it’s full of jocularity, which I’m in favor of, as my previous home had a serious case of twisted panties and wouldn’t tolerate much, if any of the back and forth that goes on here. I like humor and am fine with it getting a little gritty at times. Sometimes a little edge is good for everyone. That said, I am very interested to see what this looks like when we’re actually talking football. I’ve seen a handful of posts that seem written by someone very knowledgeable of the sport, position groups, sides of the ball, etc., but since it’s been off season it’s been limited. I’ve enjoyed the ‘Bourbon’ thread, but who wouldn’t? I’ve also learned a lot about what a knob Sean Callahan is, love the creative word corrections for words like Cockeye, etc, but I’m ready to talk football.

Back to the football thing. We are going to do that, right?
Sir this is a Wendy’s

SUPER level headed and everyone generally agrees with one another on the main issues facing our team. It's very rational and very respectful at all times.

Sarcasm in text is hard, but I believe it’s come through in this instance.

Other than one thread, you don’t see a lot of pissing contests, but again…it’s the off season.

I get what you're saying and also looking for football talk and ready for the season. That being said, I'm a little disappointed you haven't discussed catching the big ones or offshore fishing around Amity Island.

You all know me….know how I earn a livin’.

I can tell by the ‘Sandy Vagina’ tags a fair number of posters on the board have that a large portion are still in ‘Prove it’ mode. I get it and agree another 7-5 season isn’t going to change that perception.

Looking at this schedule, it looks like another year we’ll have half the fanbase lathered up after a 3-0 start, thinking ‘We’re back!’, only to play all four ‘M’ schools in the B1G in a row….which is where the season sinks or swims.

I think I have a read on this team, but won’t really feel like it’s legit until after the Cincinnati game. I need to see how a few things come together before I start thinking 8-4 or better is a legitimate, attainable goal, of if I’m just applying Rhule’s previous patterns to his stint at Nebraska. We go 3-0 with a couple of blowouts to start the year, only to crap the bed agains Michigan and I suspect the pessimistic side of the board will be louder than the optimistic.

I'm incredibly negative at all times. The theory is if I expect the absolute worst then they shouldn't be able to disappoint me.

They still fucking disappoint me

You’ve got plenty of company.

After a few of the wins last fall, my youngest son started to raise his expectations of the team, only to be disappointed in short order. He rallied a bit after Holgorsen took over the offense, but never fully shed the ‘They’re going to lose’ mindset.

I'm a product of 90's DONU football (1998 HS grad), so the Riley/Frost/2-year Rhule decade has left me with a bad case of battered housewife syndrome. Each year I've felt myself growing more and more curmudgeonly and pessimistic and I hate that. On top of that I now have a standing bet with an Cockeye buddy where the loser has to wear the winner's team gear to a business meeting after the game each November. He hasn't had to wear scarlet and cream yet.

It also doesn't help that I greatly dislike the current state CFB with "NIL" (aka booster money laundering), buying 1-year mercenary players with no real tie or loyalty to our beloved university, and unlimited transfers.

I like Rhule, I like Holgerson, I like Raiola, I like Ekeler. There's a lot to like about this 2025 team. I just have so much scar tissue that until I see enough sustained success to offset some of the statistically, unfathomable, comedic losses, alas, I'll probably have to continue to be curmudgeonly and pessimistic.

100% agree with this. College football used to be a lot of fun to follow even during the offseason with recruiting and what not. But now with all the changes that you stated perfectly has made it even harder to follow or even care about it. Rhule has done a great job of keeping things quiet during the offseason as well. I'll get geared up again when football season starts but as of right now I'm in show me what good/winning football looks like mode.
