for the lazy amoungst us:

Nebraska

“They’re going to break through this year, it’s just a question of how big. They should definitely be bowling."

"It’s all about the quarterback [true freshman Dylan Raiola]. They’ve tried to slow play it as much as possible, but he’s clearly their best option, the most talented, the guy who makes the system work."

"[Matt Rhule] has done a great job reworking the offensive talent; they’re going to have some breakout wide receivers, and they have a really deep group of running backs."

"[DC] Tony White is going to be a head coach soon, but getting him back for another year is just huge for them."

"I thought the shift to the 3-3 worked out really well for them, and they’re starting to look like old, or legendary Nebraska, with the size and talent up front on defense.

How is it we finally get a good d coordinator and he's going to leave and granted cockeyes d coordinator is about 500 years old but he's been there for a long time.

To be fair, Phil Parker's defenses at Cockeye from 2012 to 2017 were average to below average in the Big Ten. They never started playing shut down defense until these players showed up, starting in 2018:

AJ Epenesa - from Cockeye
Anthony Nelson - from Cockeye
Parker Hesse - from Cockeye
Riley Moss - from Cockeye
Kristian Welch - from Cockeye
Nick Nieman - from Cockeye
Daviyon Nixon - 20 minutes from Cockeye in Wisconsin
Seth Benson - 10 minutes from Cockeye in South Dakota
Jack Campbell - from Cockeye
Logan Lee - 12 minutes from Cockeye in Illinois
Joe Evans - from Cockeye
Lukas Van Ness - furthest away from Cockeye, in Chicago
Cooper DeJean - from Cockeye

13 Draft picks, 9 of them from Cockeye, 3 of them from minutes away from Cockeye, and the furthest dude 3 hours from Cockeye. They all signed and played defense with the Hawks since 2018. Phil Parker never changed his defense prior to the 2018 season. They've been doing the same thing they've always done. His talent just got better.

No other program wanted to hire a 50 year-old head coach who had the 45th to 60th ranked defense from 2012 to 2017.

White is much younger and is seeing instant results with a lot less NFL talent.

You might as well have just dropped an atom bomb on Swimtown and their lack of talent production for my entire adulthood

They went to a 4-2-5 in 2020 (in other words, Cornicator post)

I don't think he'd have great options to go anywhere or have the urge to do so. It's kind of like when TO had McBride. Charlie had a few offers but I don't think he envisioned being a HC. I'd think Parker is at the age where he'd rather ride things out and he's comfortable there.

That and things have been stable at Cockeye. Not great but good and most of your B10 schedule is against shitty offenses. I think many moderate DC's would have success in the B10.

Good shit again this year. Probably as positive of feedback as I can remember on us. https://athlonsports.com/college-fo...lk-anonymously-about-conference-foes-for-2025

Nebraska

“Expectations are building here, but I think this group can meet them.”

“Putting Dana [Holgorsen] in as OC is a great move for Matt [Rhule], and he’ll create a lot of advantages for Dylan [Raiola] in that offense.”

“The DC change won’t really affect what they do schematically; they’re still going to run a 3-3-5 base.”

“They need a big-play receiver to step up; otherwise, I think they’re more talented on paper than the Nebraska roster has been in years. The expectations are that they break out and finally compete among the top level in the league. That might not happen, but I think it’s realistic to expect a better bowl destination and more wins, and Dylan to get more national spotlight.”

“Matt knows how to do this, and they’re heading in the right direction.”

Big ten is gonna be tough. I think we go undefeated and win it all.

Seems rather vanilla and mediocre responses…meh, they will be a little better and go to a bowl.

And about right. 7-5 to 8-4.

Well, for comparison, here's the remarks from a few years ago...

"In their division, Nebraska still has the best-looking roster. We call it the all-bus team because they look better than anyone else in the West in pregame. Long, tall dudes, really athletic, and then after a quarter or so, you stop worrying because they're usually hurting themselves. They struggle with turnovers, they struggle with technique. I think it's a culture issue."

"Defensively they improved, but they lost some of their better guys to eligibility and they filled it with transfers."

"We ask ourselves a lot what's going on there because they're pulling in good talent and have the resources, and the administration seems to have faith in this staff."

"With the new OC and the do-or-die mentality, they have to manage the summer really well and find the right QB. My guess is that Mark Whipple's going to take over the room. He's a headstrong guy."

"The biggest thing they need to do is get the OL to a point where they can run the ball long enough to let the defense breathe. That defense isn't the problem; they were solid as hell at times. The offense just needed to stay on the field and not burn quick possessions, not go tempo and get desperate because you're playing from behind."

"Obviously, this is a big year for them. They're talented enough, but is there some kind of mental block here? If they can't come out and win and show some signs that they can build around what they're doing, this is probably it."
