Remember, Cantwell said he had the best relationship with Cristobal and the Miami staff. So true. “Building a relationship” becomes very easy and effective when you’re also giving the kid an extra $1m.
This is an example of why it may not be the best use of resources in a revenue sharing world to spend this much money on anyone, except, in rare cases, a QB. The number one guys out of HS at a few key positions are starting to command this kind of money. But no one's success is guaranteed. You'd have to think you'd be better off saving at least half this by taking a guy that was, say, the 5th rated OT and spreading the money around to other positions. Cantwell is likely using 15%-20% of their annual football revenue sharing - for maybe as long as 4 years.

Isn’t this all tied to rushing out big deals that are paid out before the settlement and then going to the new system?

No, because these are continuing payments. The only NIL which is not affected by the House deals that are signed before July 1 and to the extent paid out ls before July 1. Amounts paid after are subject to review. But the 2.5M could include a NIL component that is reviewable under House, that is true.
