Nebrasketball Recruiting Thread

Cale showed his worth in Vegas. Nothing wrong with him getting 15-18 mpg, if not a little more. Others can disagree, IDGAF.
I said I would keep him out of the other exciting whites that have walked on fwiw. I would prefer having high level transfers but we are who we are until we show otherwise I suppose.

Rarely teams go above a 8-9 man rotation, 10 at the max. Every single team has dudes that won't contribute. In our case, CJ is good enough to contribute more than a typical walk-on.

IMO from reading between your lines, you're more frustrated because Sam Hoiberg is getting the minutes he has. That's on Fred, not Sam or Cale or anyone else. But folks continue to focus and bash the players, not the one in charge of the actual roster.

Lawrence - Blue - Essegian - Sandfort - Garcia - Buyuktuncel - Jarusevicius - Mast are our main 8. There's absolutely nothing wrong with Cale and Sam as 9/10. Rhymes & Cooper may push for minutes as well, but doubtful for 2025-2026?

If Cale and Sam are 2 of our 8 rotational players we will blow lmfao

The question was Cale, not Sam. "lmfao" for sure, see above.

We're in pretty damn good shape.

Okay but you’re 9-10 players aren’t playing 15-18 minutes a game like you just said Cale should be doing. If Sam and Cale are your 9th & 10th, I’ll agree we’re in a pretty good spot. I don’t see it lasting all year though, Sam will be back in the rotation by the end of the year.

I didn't say he should be getting. I think his role can be 15-18 minutes per game and I wouldn't have a problem with it, based on the Las Vegas tournament. Now, if he's given the chance - which is at minimum 7.5 minutes per half - and doesn't perform then he's back to the bench. Even reduce it down to 13 minutes per game, which we had 8 guys average that and Ulis was the next closest (9th rotation player) at 11 minutes per game.

For Cale to get 15-18 mpg, it's likely Sam gets less than his 23 from this past season. IMO, good trade off.

If Sam is, that's on Fred. Not Sam, or anyone else.

NU’s final roster number remains TBD

A layer to NU adding another player like Curtis is that it presumably would have to cut someone loose to open up a spot on its 15-man roster. However, that might not be the case this season.

Just like the proposed 105-man roster limit for football, the 15-man cap for hoops was supposed to go into effect this offseason. But with the recent developments in the NCAA vs. House settlement case, there could be some leeway on those limits in 2025-26.

The grandfather clause being discussed with football would also apply to basketball, meaning NU’s current walk-ons could stay in the program this season without counting against the 15-player cap. In other words, the Huskers could still add another piece without forcing anyone out.
