I've been paying attention to the Cincinnati Bearcats the last few days. Just this week, they've added the #2 receiver from Western Carolina, a part time starting LB from Idaho State, a Defensive Tackle from FCS Monmouth, and a Defensive Tackle from FCS Illinois State.
Now, I don't have a problem with adding FCS transfers, but none of these guys were highly coveted in the portal. Its just a guess, but Cincinnatti likely has some significant depth issues that they are trying to fill with some desperation band aids.

TJ Finley’s lawyers allege online scam led to Tulane QB’s arrest, suspension

After Tulane suspended TJ Finley from its football team following his arrest this week in New Orleans on a charge of illegally possessing a stolen vehicle, the quarterback’s lawyers alleged he was the victim of an online “scam” that led to the ordeal.
Finley’s attorneys, David Courcelle and Scott Stansbury, said in a statement that Finley purchased a used pickup truck via Facebook Marketplace from an individual who presented Finley with “both a bill of sale and registration, giving (him) every reason to believe the purchase was legitimate.”
“Within three days of the purchase, Tulane police informed TJ that the truck had been reported stolen,” the statement, first reported by multiple outlets Thursday, said. “TJ looks forward to continuing to cooperate fully with the authorities in hopes of recovering the funds he lost, bringing the criminal(s) to justice, and clearing his name and reputation. TJ is hopeful that this process will be completed quickly so that he can move forward with his academics and athletic career.”
According to a court docket, Finley was booked Wednesday into the Orleans Parish Prison on a charge of “illegal possession of stolen things” worth more than $25,000. He told authorities that he bought the truck recently, and has since been released on bond, per multiple reports. He has a court date set for June 1.
Tulane indefinitely suspended Finley on Thursday “pending the outcome of the case.”
“Due to federal laws governing student privacy, we will not disclose any additional information regarding the student, including information related to disciplinary proceedings,” the school said in a statement.
Tulane coach Jon Sumrall addressed the situation with reporters Thursday, saying, “When things happen off the field, it’s unfortunate.
“And I’ll let the (school’s) statement say for what it is, but when guys make mistakes, then they have to have accountability,” he said.
Tulane marks the fifth collegiate stop for Finley, a multi-time transfer from Ponchatoula, La. He spent the 2024 season at Western Kentucky — where he played in the first three games before an ankle injury — following stints at LSU, Auburn and Texas State. He’s passed for 6,128 yards and 37 touchdowns in 34 career games, and had been competing in spring practice to be a starter for Tulane.

Originally, I was expecting that we would hear about a lot of portal entries by Nebraska the first half of next week, but then we were hit by the uncertainty caused by Judge Wilkins order to address grandfathering by May 8. After thinking about it, I think that will still be the case. No one can be certain about how the grandfathering order will turn out and the best route forward is probably to get out there and try to find another team before the spots (in a 105 world) are taken.
I suspect that if people are grandfathered, they will be allowed to withdraw from the portal if they have exited already. If they aren't, it is better to start looking for as spot as soon as possible. There is a widely held belief that if you lose your roster spot you will not need to enter the portal going forward - you'll be free to go anywhere. But that won't help if "everywhere" is already full.
It therefore seems likely we will see about 15 portal before COB Wednesday. These people will have filed before COB last Friday, but the school won't have forwarded the filings to the NCAA until the 48 hours are up.
Just a guess.
