Yep. The ones that think he will be LT are the offseason douche bags.

“And I can tell you he didn’t come there for a paycheck,” the father added. “I can tell you that right now. He just felt it was the best opportunity to develop personally and win.
Well, obviously. He sure as heck wouldn't be doing any winning at Notre Frickin' Dame. We all know that.

Also, we now definitely have precedent for a portaler leaving campus and still commuting later.

And for a guy getting offered a monumental bag ($1.5M) by a competitor and coming to Nebraska instead because he'd rather play for a winning team.

Think about that.

Nebraska added a key piece to its 2025 roster when Notre Dame transfer Rocco Spindler announced his commitment to the Huskers over Virginia, Pitt, Indiana and others.

The fifth-year graduate student has one year of athletic eligibility remaining. He had 402 pass-protection plays in 2024 and allowed zero sacks while helping lead Notre Dame to the College Football Playoff.

It has been a whirlwind transfer process for Spindler: The time during the CFP through the national championship game, going into the portal, through his official visits, and finally to his latest decision. Bottom line, Spindler brings leadership to an offensive line, and to an offense in general, which showed a lot of potential once Dana Holgorsen became offensive coordinator.

“It’s been crazy,” Spindler said. “I mean, the whole playoffs, I’ve been living out of a duffel bag, I would say, for a good month. We end up losing the national championship, and the next day, we’re flying out. And then we have our exit meetings that Wednesday.

“I always wanted to stay at Notre Dame. That was my home, and it will always be my home. I set out everything I went there to do to be a starter, get my degrees, and have a chance to win the national championship.

“I didn’t come away with the trophy. However, I felt like I did everything I could to do that, and the stars weren’t aligning. I wanted to stay. However, it wasn’t going to work out in the end, and I had to enter the transfer portal. It’s been crazy since then.”

The decision was about helping a program and developing into a NFL-ready offensive lineman

There have been some big numbers thrown around regarding the type of NIL money it took for Spindler to sign with Nebraska. What the decision came down to was matching up with a program based on its mentality — in Nebraska’s case, needing to get over the next hurdle to become more successful — and becoming the best lineman he can possibly become.

“I told myself I didn’t want to be about money or facilities or anything,” Spindler said. “That’s not why I entered the transport portal; it’s not who I am. That’s not what I value, and for me, as a player coming from a historic program, I personally wanted to be valued for what I do on the field.

“I’m that gritty, tough dude that puts his hand in the dirt over and over again, will play through anything, and make the players around him better. That’s what I value and what Nebraska was willing to offer me.

“I saw the best opportunity to help them win and for them to help me win and develop to have a chance at the next level. I want to do that. They have a crazy fan base there at Nebraska, and I love it. I’m trying to enjoy things and get to know, you know, their chants, their quotes, and their sayings. I’m trying to embrace the whole culture of this historic program.”

Spindler has another busy week moving to Nebraska, will be in Lincoln for spring practices

The decision to become a Husker wasn’t the end of the craziness for Spindler. Sunday, he was still listing out the things he needed to do this week as he moves to Lincoln. He will be available for spring practices and should be enrolled and starting classes this week.

“I plan on being there for spring practices, competing, showcasing me and who I am, and what I can bring to this football team,” Spindler said. “That’s what I am. I’m a veteran player, fifth-year (player), been around the block a few times, played a lot against a lot of great players and in a lot of big games.

“That’s why I feel like Nebraska is now going to take the next step, not only for me, but the players that they brought in, the players that they have, and I feel like they are right at the cusp of succeeding and winning it all. I’m excited for it.”

Spindler is the 16th portal transfer for Matt Rhule and the Huskers and is the second offensive lineman in the class joining offensive tackle Elijah Pritchett from Alabama. Spindler was a top three IOL in the portal, according to On3, and started 23 games in his career playing for the Irish.
