my take away is that if their coach only got this team to a 9 seed he failed miserably

Big picture simulation is that this will be by far Fred’s best year and we will go back to his prior season lack of success under him.

Yep. The timing added extra pressure IMO. Turd bailing when and how he did was the stimuli to that (and other things like quickly a new university Pres and athletics AD).
All that being said, Turd & M was a superior team on talent by a ways. Our style fits better with the plodding B1G. That being said, we need to bring in a couple of athletic, defenive bigs, and a couple of 6'-4"+ athletic wings.
We won't get all of that of course. One starting level athletic big and 1starting level athletic wing would be great. We just need more talent.
Still, this was a horrendous matchup for us though. Exactly the type of team to take advantage of our weaknesses. Is what it is. Fred needs to download the files from this ass whooping and fill the holes now on the roster. Can be done.

I absolutely hate feeling this way. Because this was a good basketball team and not a single person before the season was expecting them to be here.
But I can’t stop feeling like we fell short of where we should have and underachieved.

Not really. A team that shoots 28% on the season from 3 just shot in the mid 50s and hung almost a hundred. If aTm has an average night from 3 we win this game no problem.
The story of the game was Texas A&M hit some tough 3s that they hadn’t all year.

Yeah, they got hot & were playing with good energy.
We were a little tight and on our heels, which allowed a ton of drives and offensive rebounds we don't usually give up, and IMO, made the athletic disparity look worse than it was.
Sucks when your off night lines up with their best night.

Did we watch the same game? They smothered us on defense, dominated the boards and got to the rim at will. There was no way we were winning that game. Their 3 pt shooting just made it more of a blowout than it would have been otherwise.

Fred has a good thing going and if he can grab 2 or more of the following (or similar) from the portal, we can have an even better year next season:
1. A true point guard who can defend and distribute (Chucky). Lawrence flashed on offense a few times but not with any consistency. He was so bad at running our offense consistently that we had Williams and Mast bringing the ball up the court and running our offense more often than not.
2. A Center who is a threat from 3, can distribute a little, but most importantly, can defend the paint (Maxime Raynaud). Move Mast to the 4. It will take a ton of pressure off of our defense.
3. Another tough forward to add quality depth at the 4/5 (William Kyle III). Say what you want about Allick but we will miss him badly if we don’t replace his role.
4. Some low risk/high reward random JUCO sharpshooter like this guy.
