Most weight racks now in college weight rooms have camera systems on them so they can measure the distance you are moving the bar.
This allows them to measure the amount of work in joules that was done in a set of lifts.
So some short stocky guy with a big chest that moves the bar half the distance has to do twice as many traditional reps to match the work of someone else.
They also have time in these systems so they can measure power in watts.
You could actually compare athletes if they did the lift and then we had a list of how many watts each athlete generated.
e.g.
Samouri Toure generated 12,000 watts in his bench session and CTB generated 14,000 watts.
