That’s fair. It seemed to me we had an elite run defense and passing was the only way to score. But we still had the 17th ranked scoring defense vs our 105th ranked scoring offense so I don’t know it was necessarily a glaring weakness.
The same year, 2024, UCF had the 82th ranked scoring...
You are welcome to think Williams was the reason our secondary was elite. I tend to think it was more Butler given their respective backgrounds, but that’s fine. Agree on the recruiting side.
Cockeye State over Syracuse for a Midwest guy that was in Lincoln for a while is not wild. Kehres would...
I have theories on why someone like Kehres would prefer Syracuse vs what we’re doing. We’ll see which method works but it’s obvious we’re focused on the transfer portal saving the day. I’m sure we need someone like Elijah to bring in immediate starters for 2026.

We interviewed Kehres, he turned us down, chose Syracuse. Now we’ll hopefully hire the guy that Syracuse just fired to open up Kehres’ spot. As co Dc, for 7 figures. Get on board.
Of course you would think our current DB coach whose boss coached DBs in the NFL and enjoyed an absolute sieve of a run defense, where teams didn’t need to try passing is in fact Very Good. After all, he was at UCF last year and is a proven entity. Good program to gauge coaches, UCF.

A very normal leader would let the new DC come in and realize ( and announce ) we’re keeping the DB coach, if that was their choice. Lord knows the only reason the DB is coming here is for the $. Versus announcing up front. Just a smooth brain move for a leader, undercutting them up front...
No one thinks that. We all agree he wanted his own DB coach and we oddly drew the line up front about that. As if we’re in a position to think a freshman DB is worth drawing the line over.
Also full disclosure I think Diaco is a better DC than butler. He encountered the simulation here where we flush out promising players when they can’t start as sophomores
