I’m not a portal expert, but wouldn’t a player have had to sign with the destination school no later than 1/16 to participate in any athletic department related activities?
at Miami those activities will take place after tonight.

So we portaled to get about 7+ starters? 1/3 of our 22 main spots got immediately improved? And some are going with the “D” grade that was apparently ascribed to a singular position as the grade for the whole squad?

I don’t hate C+ as I do believe we could’ve been in on either more or higher quality guys if we were real players

I think C+ on paper is about right IMO. Could end up being better than that if Colandrea really balls out and exceeds expectations.

Staff should get credit for player retention, we kept the vast majority of players we need, not a small feat in the portal age. I don’t think we did as poorly in the portal as many do, terrific no…but we did not do badly overall. Including retention, B is my grade. I also am not panicking about no running back, if the line improves under Geep, and I suspect it will, what we have will give us a good running game.

I tend to agree; maybe I'd go for B/B- as I really think we needed another DT and/or Edge, IMO more than a RB. Like you, I was really concerned about retention. In particular, I had a nagging fear that Pritchett, who improved a lot over the season, might take off again. Also Evans - he apparently liked Donnie a lot.

I really like to top guy on this list. Entered the portal the last day. Already has a undergrad degree from Notre Dame and a Masters from Cal. One season (his 7th) of eligibility left. Great profile for a one and done. Also trains at Six Zero in NE Colorado.

With the DL, I may be a bit too optimistic but I was high on both Simpson and Terry coming out of HS and I think (assuming they heal properly from injuries) they will be able to help us the interior of that DL. We won’t know until we see them.

True - if they live up to the pre-injury hype we will likely be in decent shape.

For their roster, correct?

Davis entered the portal from NU and would have to land before 1/16 is how I understand it. Miami and Indiana’s players can portal out after tonight.

there is no fixed date limit on when he can land once he's in. Anytime up until the last registration deadline before the next season starts

That’s bullshit.
Agree, I don’t think that is quite the way it went…not even sure he has flipped yet. Sounds like (Verghese and others) that NU is still trying to figure if we can make it work despite him failing a class he needed. Not sure about this, just what I understand others to believe who know more than I do, but I think this is where he wants to be.

I also don’t think Clemson’s academic requirements are any laxer than Nebraska’s.

That seems like a really bad idea for the athlete, but they are kids.

I'll give RT and LB to you. I don't know if you can say if that ILB matters if the DL is still a sieve. And being better at RT is a pretty low bar.

I don't know if they are bringing in a guard that's better than Spindler to improve that position.

I don't think Colandrea is better than Raiola. I think he's more exciting than Raiola because he's a wildcard but not better.

I don't know if they replaced Dane Key or Ceyair Wright with better players. I realize they brought in guys but I'm not sure they are better. We will see if the SDSU safety is better than Singleton.

They had zero difference makers on the DL last year and have decided to hope that RVP and a bunch of guys who got minimal or no reps last year to make a big jump and supplemented them with a guy that is best described as a journeyman and another guy that was injured in 2025.

How did they improve the pass rush? How did they improve the offensive backfield?

Did they try to find someone better than Lindenmeyer? I like Lindenmeyer but why not try to get better there?

They brought in 7 starters..OK. How many of those 7 starters could start at any Big 10 school that can actually compete?

Probably the best Nebraska did in this portal was they retained Hunter, Marshall, Barney, Pritchett, Evans and Shavers.

Mullen pretty consistently turns out good players.

This is where I am. Very solid retainment on young talent that’s ideally developing and ready to contribute.

Would have liked another game changing DL and have some reservations about RB…but my sense is there is enough there to do what we want behind a revamped Geep line.

I’ll go ‘B-‘ from a holistic view.

Question marks remain no doubt and we are better positioned than we were.

What that translates to, we won’t know until this October/November.
