Trucks

Had a fully paid for 2020 f150 with only 44k miles on until my wife smoked someone who ran a red light and totaled it.
I had been thinking about selling it because I don’t really need a truck but my wife made me get a new one due to no damage on the interior other than all the air bags going off while the other car was unrecognizable and other driver going to hospital.

So now I have a 2025 f150 that I owe 18k on after getting $28k from insurance (actually $31k and change but used some for sales tax)

My dilemma the last couple weeks, had I found something, would basically be whether I start a loan over or just continuing to pay. I did the math after finding that Chevy, and I'm only actually halfway through my current loan. So starting over doesn't sound so bad anymore.

I’ve been trying to decide for a month if I should buy a truck

Maybe a 2021-2023 Ford or Chevy, maybe a Ram. They’re all $40-50k though

I have no practical reason to get one but

IMO, living in Nebraska with the winters is reason enough. Basic 4x4 is super handy.

I used to have a nice truck.

Then I decided to sell it and put my wife in a nice suburban and opt for an 18 year old rusty piece of shit I found on Craigslist for $7,000 - not because I can’t afford a nice truck at this stage in my life, but because the part of me that grew up poor still feels the need to look the part.

Left outside in a hail storm? I don’t lose any sleep.

Hit a deer and dented the front end? I don’t lose any sleep.

Kid spills a pop in the back seat? I don’t lose any sleep.

Need an oil change? I’ll do it myself for $40 instead of paying the service department at Sid Dillon $140.

I highly recommend driving a piece of shit and not getting caught in the dick measuring contest that is the modern truck market.

I know it sounds like I’m being sarcastic but driving a piece of shit truck is incredibly liberating.

It sounds like you are really trying to talk yourself into starting over a new loan. If i were you I’d put the money into the truck you already have instead of getting into one that has 10 years and 122,000 miles of someone else’s driving. I am in the market for a newer truck but thankfully my father in law has access to wholesale auctions and is all for getting me a decent truck at cost if it means his grandchildren are safer

1932889856462524283.jpeg Buddy just sent this in my group chat. I needed this text a month ago. Figured I’d post here. Seems like a badass truck for a grandpa lol

2006 f250 6.0 powerstroke diesel , head studded and tuned. Crew cab, regular box. leather, 154k. Captain chairs.

Helping my mom sell this. My grandpa was the only owner....asking 18k.....let me know if you know anyone who might be interested.

This guy is probably interested in that one

I would say that I’m trying to talk myself into getting rid of a truck that I don’t have a legit reason to get rid of. I talked to my father in law a few hours ago about it. I have high respect for my father in law and my wife’s family is all Chevy/GM until they die, so I wanted his opinion on truck quality/worthiness of trade. He has a way of telling the blunt truth in a very respectable way that almost sounds like wisdom, and he’s just waiting for the light bulb to “click” for whoever he’s talking to. He basically told me that the situation doesn’t change with either truck. You know where you’re at and where you’re going with your current truck, and all you’re doing is inheriting someone else’s used truck with unknown possible issues.

I have a 2024 Duramax crew cab.

Gooseneck smashes tailgate…don’t lose any sleep

Back into a tree in the crp field and bend bumper…don’t lose any sleep

Fence post pops up while being hidden in grass and dents front bumper…don’t lose any sleep..

Kids destroy the back seat with more than just pop…don’t lose any sleep…

Transmission went out this week…don’t lose any sleep…

I don’t lose sleep bc I can afford the truck….its all just spilt milk is why I don’t lose any sleep…

Treat yourself a nice truck regardless of whether you spill pop or get hail damage. Can’t take it to the grave, man!

Also a 2024 Chevy HD Duramax owner. Love that truck. I got it for hauling our camper so Mrs. LHR and I could explore the US of A in style and comfort (LTZ) before we get too old to do it. I'm the guy you want to buy any used vehicle from when I sell it because I take great care of all my vehicles, but if something bad happens to it ... I'll have a grump afternoon and go get a suitable replacement. 'Merica.
