Hopefully we’re waiting on Charmar to finish his season?

I doubt it though.
I can get down with Charmar. It makes sense to me if they believe they have good potential in the room - hell, Nelson looked good in the bowl game and got good reports this year - to bring a veteran guy in to wrap it together, especially a bigger body.

I can warm up to it i spose.

Fwiw DB said this morning that he felt like they didn't need to take another RB. He was looking at the numbers though I think most of us are looking at production.

Nelson
Mozee
Ives
Williams
Booth
Rule

DB also said he would be good without getting another QB.

Colandrea
Lateef
Soukup
Longval

Mainly bring it up because DB and Rhule think along the same line on these kinds of things.
Wasnt DB always hyping Wilbon & it didn’t lead to jack squat?

Feel like RBs usually show ya something if they got it & none of our guys have done that yet. Worries me we’re going to depend on new tmart’s legs too much & it’ll lead to old tmart problems

I think if Pat and Matt told Barthel we want Cam Edwards but we don’t want too pay him what he’s worth then there’s not much for Barthel to do. And it sounds like they’re not really valuing the RB position this year which is odd after watching EJ carry the offense
Not a big Barthel guy but the money guys haven't done him any favors. Not enough money to keep Dowdell, or get CharMar last year and now this year Edwards? Not sure what happened with the Parker transfer either.

I agree and I also think Barthel is highly overrated, however like you said he’s kind of handcuffed if they don’t value the position he’s coaching

I know it's not super exciting but both of NUs LS are Seniors this year. I know they were trying to get a waiver for one but I'm not sure if they did?
I’m a proponent of actively recruiting long snappers. Never take it for granted. It’ll show at the worst times if we have a bad one. Just like having some fun with it.
Besides, who doesn’t like a good snapper.

I know DB is really high on Nelson but he didn’t show anything all year to show he is ready to be a bell cow back. Further, one drive in the bowl game isn’t enough to impress me.

It’s really hard to imagine looking at the running back room and thinking, “yeah, we are ready to compete in the big ten.”

Might be nice if our scramble-y boi had someone to help keep the defense honest.

But I’m sure Dana can big brain an offense with a room full of backup RBs.

Listened to Benning this morning also, and I can’t imagine the staff really thinks rolling out a guy who played so few snaps this past year (Nelson), a converted WR with even fewer snaps (Mozee), Ives (lol), an 18yo freshman (Rule), a constantly hurt freshman Booth, then a handful of walk-ons, is a winning formula if Rhule really wants to be a strong running team.

Someone on here said it also, but how do you watch EJ this year and go “nah we don’t need anything close to that for next year - we good”.

Lastly, I get Barthel has been a weirdly hot name for some prominent jobs, but his recruiting has been objectively sub-par, and he can only take partial credit for EJ, given that he also buried him on the depth chart in favor of Dowdell and Gabe Ervin Jr.

I always find it odd that people blame Barthel for Emmett being buried on the depth chart in 2024 when it clearly was a Satterfield call. It's no coincidence that Johnson immediately became a bigger factor once Satterfield was demoted.

Rhule has made very clear (check Minnesota 2023 postgame presser) that he lets his position coaches run rotations. It’s not odd at all that EJs position coach should be held responsible. Also, it was Dana who identified EJ right when he got here as someone he wanted to feature.
