Transfer QB

Of the following potential QBs, which would you prefer...

  • A

  • B

  • C

  • D

Well we're not taking any more walk-ons, just the couple that are grandfathered, so I guess that would be either Longval or Soukup.

Correction: apparently Longval participated in Senior Day activities, so he's probably not coming back either. That leaves just Lateef and Soukup in the QBs room. We'd need to take four portal guys to get back to our previous number. Sooo yeah, probably good that we're casting a wide net, here.

Also, we might take a walk-on level QB (like Longval and Soukup) in this class that we don't know about yet. That would basically fill Longval's spot as a practice QB.

Walk-ons are not a thing anymore. You've got 105 players, and you've got scholarships for all of them. There's no reason to take guys that low in ability.

Probably look at someone like that to be next year’s starter. Wouldn’t want to take anyone with experience and success. Just need guys who are cheap.

Sounds like a good spot for Jett.

Jk. But it might be worth it to bring in a guy like Mikey Gow as a 3rd QB. At worst, you have a practice squad QB that wont chase anyone away. At best, maybe he over achieves for his love of Nebraska and competes in a year or two.

I can’t tell if this is serious or not.

I bet we bring in a JUCO QB to play the Gramstad role.

We will obviously sign someone to compete with TJ to start but we will also bring in the JUCO guy just to hold the clipboard and give the media 2 articles to write. One about his unlikely path to Nebraska where he's just appreciative of the opportunity and another one later on about how he'll graduate and is now looking to get into coaching.

The QB room numbers will force this to happen.
I'll fill that role for them if they just give me access to the training table and let me eat all I want.

Sigh.
I realize this. Almost wrote in my post "not that true walk-ons exsist any more" but figured it was unnesseary explanation. I guess I was wrong. That's why I wrote "walk-on level QB (like Longval and Soukup)."

And there is a reason to take guys like that, to operate units in practice. We never needed Longval or Soukup to play in a game, but if we're going to get reps for depth players in practice or if we're going to fill scout teams, we need QBs to run those units. That's where "walk-on level" (remember, walk-ons are not a thing anymore) players come in. In your own post I was replying to, you say we need to take four QB's in the portal to get back to previous levels. Well, the previous levels included practice QB's like Longval and Soukup. No need to go to the portal for those guys if we can find them locally for relatively no money.

(jk = just kidding)
Which part was the joke? In the normal parlance of our time, you would put the “jk” after the statement that was a joke. I fully thought the Jett reference was a joke.

I was referring to the even dumber recommendation in the second part of the post when asking if the post was a joke.

Youre so pissy these days.

You're always gonna need arms for practice. Only one guy plays, but you need 4th or 5th stringers that you really arent concerned about them getting injured. Those are your scout teamers. You're not gonna pay for those guys beyond the minimum. Its the modern era walk on. If you think thats dumber than rolling out there with a shortage of QBs, than you have a severe lack of self awareness.

Your suggestion is the equivalent of holding a campus tryout. That’s my point.

I’m especially annoyed with the rising consensus due to group think, that it’s a solid plan to go into next season with no QBs with more experience and/or achievement than TJ in the belief that somehow “competition” will solve the issue. That somehow a “game manager” type is all the team will need if they have solid (not sure what degree of good that is) o-line play and RB play.

I think you’ll be unhappy to learn that the results will not look much different than they did this year.

I’m not interested in having a season that looks like Cockeye. What’s the real difference between what Cockeye did and what we did? Neither is in the CFP, or B1G CG?

I would much rather take a fucking swing to get one of the good ones than purposefully handcuff myself because shit didn’t work out with Dylan.

It’s the fucking equivalent of settling for a 4 or 5 because an 8 burned you. JFC, grow some fucking balls and go for it. For a board full of alpha male 2A Pubes you would think there would be more sack in here.

If thats how you want to put it, sure. But you're not getting worth a damn QBs to come here for free.

You must be doing yoga lately, because that's an incredible stretch.

I haven't seen anyone say they don't want to bring in good QBs. What I have seen is that, unless its a home run guy which are few and far between in the portal and even then aren't guarantees to work out, you want to bring in a guy thats willing to compete with TJ. You don't want to guarantee a non HR guy the starting spot just to lose Lateef, then said guy turns out to be trash and the whole season is shit.

Not a single person has said to bring in just inexperienced guys. Not one.

No kidding a QB is going to cost money. What’s understood doesn’t need to be discussed.

First of all, plenty of people have said it and alluded to it in posts. They’re in this thread and not hard to find.

Second, who fucking cares if TJ leaves because they bring in a proven guy. We talk about him like he’s going to be special; I don’t think he’s going to be good (would love to be wrong).

The suggestion of bringing in a guy on a 105-man roster who has ZERO offers is insane. If you can find someone to co-sign this suggestion I’ll refrain from this thread.
