I guess the hypothesis is that Cignetti floated around as a D! assistant and a D2 and FCS HC until he was about 60, was hired by James Madison before the 2019 season - a team ranked pre-season number one in FCS with 19 returning startersthat season, and that transformed him into a genius savant.

I think he is a very good coach, but Cignetti worship is getting crazy.
He's cleary an amazing coach but Kirby just more proven.

I think he would have gotten earlier opportunities if he wasn’t such a douche. ADs love nice guys. Remember kids, be nice in your workplace and your bosses will promote you and forgive you when you fail

what the fuck does High Profile mean in a portal context? It typically means guys people thought would be good coming out of high school who turned out to be disappointments.
Yeah Dane Key and Hunter were failures at their last stops - get a grip ! I know it’s the best cope of the pro Rhule guys that we just don’t have enough NIL to get a strong portal class, but that’s objectively not true. We made a bad coaching hire and the sooner everyone can accept that the sooner we can move on and hopefully get the right guy

they weren't failures. But I am not sure what you are looking at or why you'd say we had a higher profile 2025 transfer portal class.

Here are our top ten portal transfers in by TR

Not sure ours is higher profile, especially given Indiana snared one of the highest regarded guys coming out (Mendoza) last year

Our class really helped us - it was unquestionably a good one for us - but Mendoza made their's transformational. Coogan also got huge snaps and Hemby also helped. It was also huge for their D, as Daley, Wyatt, Boykin, Ratcliffe and Wheeler also got between 217-548 snaps (out of 744).

Yes IU snagged the # 4 qb. NU snagged top 10 receivers, #4 linebacker, #9 dlineman, #6 OT, #10 IOL

It does depend on the source you use. Bottom line - Cig won because of him, not the jimmies and the joes

We can absolutely make it back to the mountaintop, and quite frankly stay there, but it won’t be as fast as Indiana

Cignetti exudes the traits that are necessary for success: Excellent talent evaluation & player development resulting in a high level of execution.

Sadly, Rhule couldn’t be farther from those same traits in year 3. NU will be no closer in year 4 to success than we were in years 1-3. Rhule is what he is. No amount of NIL will change that.

They have way more NFL talent on their roster than we do, though at least at this point in time. He wouldn't have duplicated this with our roster especially given the difference in player experience level.

He gets credit for putting the team together and coaching it, but I think it is always the Jiimmies and the Joes the differentiate at the end.

Ohio State has a pretty good coaching staff as well.

I would thank the lord almighty for blessing me with the choice between the 2 best coaches in CFB. Then I’d flip coin and go win a shit load of football games.
I would take Day before Kirby. Hopefully their teams get to play each other.

No amount of coaching prowess can beat a fully motivated OSU team like Indiana did if you don’t have the horses to run with them. Not trying to discredit Cig because he clearly identified/developed those guys, but it seems like a pretty obvious point.

Nebraska - and nearly everyone else - wasn't going to identify them because they did not play HS football for two years. They were also lowly ranked for the same reason.

My guess is they broke the Covid-era rules by visiting guys they heard of in the area by word of mouth and then visited them and worked them out, but the evidence isn't there to be certain.
Maybe its because I thought then and still think now the whole Covid shutdown was pure bullshit and wrong on so many levels that when I hear this accusation against him I just shrug.

Sorry if this should go to the parking lot but if you think I'm wrong IDGAF

It's coaching + talent evaluation + assembling the talent. Cig seems to be doing all 3 at the highest levels.

Yes and it’s clear that Cig is doing an amazing job. But this is truly a 1 in a million scenario we’re seeing here and I think the results are exceeding what even Indiana thought would be a best case scenario.

In hindsight, it looks obvious, but it was not at all clear this would be the case when Cig took over. If it was, he wouldn’t be coaching at Indiana in the first place. Had we hired Cig and watched him bring in a ton of JMU transfers, a huge portion of our fan base would have been out on him from the jump.

Who would you take to lead Nebraska if you had you your pick? Cignetti or Kirby?
Cignetti took the frumunda cheese of college football, and instantly made them great. I doubt Kirby would have pulled that off. So my choice would have to be Cig since we are much closer to ballsack cheese than we are Georgia.

That being said, I believe Cig would be successful at 135 of the 136 FBS teams. The one exception being Nebraska.
