Honestly that's a pretty good comparison...but Nebraska was a better program than Indiana, but still a good comparison.Bob devaney

Yeah, but Indiana is one of the losing-est programs ever.Even though DONU had some history of being a dominant program up until 1940 or so, they were dogshit for 20 years preceding Bobfather's arrival including being 3-6-1 the season before he proceeded to go 9-2, 10-1, 9-2, 10-1, 9-2 for a 47-6 in his first 5 years compared to 15-34-1 the 5 years prior. That's pretty much a Cignetti-like turnaround IMO, even if the landscape was completely different back then.
True dat...everyone slobbered all over Bill Snyder back in the day (and understandably so) for just turning K9state into a winner. Can't imagine what it would've been like if he had KSU contending for the title in years 1 and 2 like Cig, what he's done at IU is almost impossible yet he's doing it. Crazy shit.Yeah, but Indiana is one of the losing-est programs ever.
But as I said, that's a pretty good comparison tho and one of the very very few and basically it's a once in a generation type thing (maybe even less than that).
I almost included Stoops, but Oklahoma was blue blood that was just down and it wasn't like there wasn't a ton of talent there when he got there.
We have the talent at the skill positions, but we suck at developing people in the trenches and tackling in open space. Our coaching is subpar compared to everyone else and we’ve had some good OL classes. Unfortunately, it’s a shame that none of them are developed enough to step in and contribute and it shows how much of a poor coach Uncle Donnie is. I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t get our ass kicked next weekend by the nerds from Northwestern. It still takes talent period. If you don’t have the dudes it doesn’t matter what you do. We’ve got several but not nearly enough. If we had more dudes on the O line, those injuries last night don’t get magnified like they did. We need more money to get better players. I’ve coached with hardly any talent and also with lots. It’s no secret which was easier. Whatever it takes, we need more $$ or else the talent will stay the same and we will get the same results…. Unfortunately.
Then he really wouldn’t want to come hereMaybe if we get @BingoDingo in his ear
This one is probably it with the Cignetti situation. Hire an asshole who just wants to win, and buy players who would literally die to win a title instead of worrying about dancing on Tik Tok and that’s what you get. In my mind, the old school era in Lincoln died when Frost left his office for the last time. Fuck it, assholes don’t get pushed around like pussys on Friday night. We’d rather hire a Nice Guy.
Despite knowing where Nice Guys finish.
I think the way to look at it is Cignetti has consistent standards for all of his players and coaches. Rhule is not consistent and if you take off any blinders you might have its pretty self evident. If you listen to Cigs talk, he coaches to a standard. From the eyeball test, he has a higher standard than Rhule does. Plus he also learned from one of the Goats in Saban. Even Kirk Ferentz has a higher standard than Rhule does.

I know you’re much older than me, but even the things they taught us when I was kid 20 years ago, early 2000s, you can’t teach anymore, and all of it shaped us for the better when it comes to toughness and fighting through shitI hate to say this, but you really have to have a pretty decent mean streak in you to excel at this game.
That doesn’t mean you have to be a criminal POS, but personally I can confirm football was a different game for me when the goal was to physically punish the guy I was tackling. Arrive with anger.
The Frost comment makes zero sense. This one is probably it with the Cignetti situation. Yeah, what the heck about Frost was tough? His teams were softThe Frost comment makes zero sense.
I guess what I meant was that 90s development with Frost being the HC concept that I always kept alive in my head because of the program he was in. Ya know, guys don't see the field at all for 2-3 years because they're being developed in the weight room and training table until they're mentally and physically ready. I always hoped for that under Frost because of what he played in, and yeah it never happened. But, all those fallacies and hopes I had at the time left when he walked out the door and that door to that time period closed with him. So, it's 2025, go buy the players. If Cignetti can do it at Indiana, it can sure as shit be done anywhere if the investment is there.Yeah, what the heck about Frost was tough? His teams were soft
I believe in Revelations it says - Rapture is near when they Hoosiers become national title contender in the young nation.Either we live in a computer simulation or intelligent design is real. It has to be one or the other, I just can’t decide which one it is…
