Do I think Rhule makes sense for PSU? No, as he’s not what a team that is not getting over “the hump” should look to.
If Rhule was an alumnus from somewhere completely unrelated like, NC St or Cal, his CV would be a terrible fit for this opening. It would surprise me if he was actually their 1st choice, given the fact that PSU fans seem to be 60%+ against the hire.

Rhule knows the terrain though and I could definitely see Kraft believing in Rhule. If he wasn't from there though this would be an absolute head scratcher of a hire.

I still do tend to think the first stuff thrown out is (1) agents spreading rumors and (2) the AD putting feelers out. If it really was Rhule this would be the quickest open and shut hire & fire timeline in major CFB history. I have a hard time thinking anything is this straightforward though.

I think the next three weeks will be telling! I would say 1 of 3 things:
If we struggle 1-2 or 0-3 he isn’t going cause he won’t be a hot commodity. If we go 3-0 seem to be rolling you will get a contract announce with a raise extension whatever. If we are going 3-0 or maybe even 2-1 and crickets than I think he is in negotiations and looking at leaving.

I hope Rhule takes a lesson from Frost.

I understand he loves Penn State and holds State College near and dear to his heart. Don't take the risk of making everyone there hate you. He talks about how miserable and emabarssing and hard on his family failed tenure at Carolina was. Imagine how more heartbreaking that would be for him if it was coming from Penn State people and he became persona non grata is a place that means so much to him.

I'm not sure if this has been discussed in ITT, but what is the timeline of a PSU decision? I cannot imagine they'd allow this to linger, otherwise the program would have quite a bit of instability for a couple of months.

Would that mean that they received a verbal or memo of understanding from someone?

Maybe I'm naive, but are they really going to wait until after the season to make their selection? That seems dangerous. Still surprised they fired him this early, unless they have someone lined up.

I just think it was so toxic in State College that they had to make a move. Chance of going like 4-8 too scary. Bring an interim in and maybe you get a bounce in some of these games. Like UCLA has gotten.

Anyone PSU hires is likely employed now. If it's Cignetti (which it won't be) he could be employed until like January 10th or something.

PSU is likely going to have to wait to announce anything methinks. Which is kind of why HCs like Rhule will have to come out and say something to the contrary etc. In this era of the portal & NIL, in addition to HS recruiting, you can't really let a rumor fester for 2-3 months while your key players are all agreeing to backchannel deals to leave.

ya ninja I agree. While Penn St is where many butts get pegged, corch rhule needs to remember not all roads lead to butt sects

Ok, I must be missing something. Why would this photo mean anything at all with regards to PSU opening?

Agree. Giving the Nebraska shocker in a restaurant doesn't tell me a whole lotta anything.
When it was originally posted here it was thought to have been posted after the Penn State news broke and seen as Rhule saying he was all N. But clearly the Rhule picture was posted before the news broke so it is totally unrelated.

I think 🤔 it would be a long shot argument to say it meant anything no matter when it was posted. But I at least understand the logic behind the post now.👍🏻

If Rhule is their HC they struck out on 5 others
On this note, went to check in w former PSU player Adam Breneman who does a lot of CFB content and has a good sized following.

He did his short list for PSU and didn't even include Rhule on it LOL. He did add MR later. Just interesting that when thinking of Home Run hires, Rhule's name didn't even cross his mind.
